Hotel chains are going dark in Tennessee as state seeks to ban alcohol and liquor on properties

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) AUSTin, Texas – Hotels in a state where alcohol and other drugs are prohibited are going out of business.

The Austin American-Statesman reports hotels and other lodging companies are going offline as a result of the bill being considered.

The bill would prohibit alcohol on private property and bars and liquor in public, and bar and liquor sales on private properties.

The bill also would require hotel owners to install an electronic system to track and report the sales of alcohol.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation said the bill is still being worked out.

The Texas Hotel and Lodging Association says it has not seen any notice from the state.
